How To Deal With Your Children’s Head Lice?
A prescription from a doctor or nurse is needed in order to obtain birth control pills. On the other hand, you may be able to mail or retrieve a lot of packs at once. Depending on your area, you might even be able to buy birth control pills online.
What are head lice?
Head lice are tiny insects that enjoy living in hair, especially in the lashes and brows. In order to survive on the blood of their host, these tiny pests establish themselves close to the scalp. They crawl from head to head rather than leap or fly. It’s this minuscule insect that is clearly visible. The adult simply hangs out on the human scalp and is about the size of a sesame seed. It’s just this tiny microscopic companion of ours that they can attach to human hair.
Although head lice can affect anyone at any age, children between the ages of three and twelve are the most common victims. They are particularly prevalent in young children who spend time in tightly packed spaces like daycare centers and schools. Lice can spread through head-to-head contact between young children in daycare or preschool settings who are wrestling each other on the floor or napping close to each other in their sleeping cots.
Symptom of head lice
Lice bites can result in bumps and sores on the scalp in addition to the characteristic itching. There will also be evidence of lice and/or visible lice eggs, also called nits. All you need to do to determine whether your child has lice is carefully examine his or her scalp using a fine-toothed comb.
What to do if your child has lice?
Lice can be treated with over-the-counter topical medication like Hedrin Once that is available at pharmacies and grocery stores. In fact, some salons focus exclusively on treating lice infestations. Most children won’t require medical attention, but prescription drugs are available in the event of an especially aggressive or persistent infestation. Additional treatments might be required to eradicate the lice entirely. Cleaning any clothing, bedding, or fabric items your child has used is also a good idea.
Since it takes a week for a lice egg to hatch, we usually need to treat it again in that week. It is also advised that the child wash any bedding, stuffed animals, or laundry table items that they have used within the previous 48 hours. Before the child uses items that can’t be cleaned again, place them in a plastic bag or container and store them away for a few weeks.
How to prevent lice?
Although it might not be feasible to avert every instance of head lice, there exist several measures you can take to hinder their proliferation:
- Steer clear of sharing personal items such as hats, helmets, and hair styling tools.
- Periodically check your child’s hair for lice and nits.
- Wear your long hair pulled back in a ponytail or braid.
- To eradicate any possible lice, wash your child’s clothing and bedding on a regular basis in hot water.
Lice on the head do not indicate poor personal hygiene or cleanliness. If your child experiences them, there’s no need to feel ashamed or stigmatized because they are a common problem that can affect anyone. Dr. Sabey advises parents to teach their kids to be kind and that playing with friends is still acceptable because head lice can affect anyone.
